SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Freshman Elaina Mellott shot a 94 to pace the Taylor women’s golf team on the first day of the Bethel Pilot Invitational at Blackthorn Golf Club this afternoon.

Amid temperatures in the mid 40’s and rainy conditions Mellott finished day one in a tie for 24th while senior Jenna Fahlen added a 101 and Erin Erickson and Hope Knowling both carded 112’s to round out the Taylor scoring.

The Trojans’ team score of 414 leaves them in 7th place out of seven teams at the event while 16th-ranked Bethel fired a team score of 321 to lead the field at the event.

“Conditions were really tough today,” Taylor coach Julie Flores said. “Elaina (Mellott) played well, especially on her front nine and it's great to see Erin (Erickson) continue to knock strokes off her score.”

Second round action in the Bethel Pilot Invitational begins with a shotgun start at 12:30 pm tomorrow.

Elaina Mellott 94
