MARION, Ind. - Sophomore Elaina Mellott carded a career-low score of 83 to pace the Taylor women's golf team to its lowest ever team score on the final day of the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational at Arbor Trace Golf Club.
Taylor trimmed 25 shots off its score from Friday, thanks in large part to Mellott who improved by 18 shots from her first round score, as the Trojans carded a 385 in the final round, to wrap up a eighth place finish in the 9-team field.
Freshman Brittany Pfaff also improved on day two recording a 93 on the second day after shooting 95 on day one. The Trojans also got a 102 from Erin Erickson and a 107 from Marisa Williamson while Alexa Gum rounded out the Taylor scoring with a 125.
The Trojans' 385 was better than three other teams in the field on the second day and breaks the previously set TU record by 16 shots.
Marian edged Olivet Nazarene to claim the tournament title while Saint Francis' Lakin Davis took home individual medalist honors with a 2-day total of 157 (77-80).
