UPLAND, Ind. – The Trojans will travel to the NCAA Division II University of Southern Indiana Saturday to get their spring season underway. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm at the Evansville Tennis Center.
The Screaming Eagles are a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and possess an overall record of 6-2 dating back to the fall season. Southern Indiana is currently in its non-conference schedule of its primary spring season and has won its last two matches, defeating Lindenwood University 5-4 and Lindenwood University-Belleville 9-0.
Taylor finished its primary fall season with an overall record of 7-7, earning the No. 4 seed in the Crossroads League Tournament. The Trojans were able to overcome the No. 5 seed Grace in the league tournament quarterfinal by the score of 5-4 prior to bowing out to NAIA No. 21 Marian 5-0 in the semifinals.
The Taylor roster will remain nearly unchanged for the upcoming spring season, as the team's lone senior Kelsey Chow will be the only player not competing after playing No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in the fall. Sophomore All-Crossroads League selection Katherine Marquez will remain a fixture at the top of the lineup. Sophomore Sarah Smith, who was studying abroad this past fall, returns for the spring and will immediately contribute to the Trojan lineup after being selected as an All-Crossroads League player in her freshman season.
The Trojans hope to get off to a strong start with their match Saturday, which begins at 2:00 pm against the University of Southern Indiana at the Evansville Tennis Center. The match is the first of six currently scheduled for the spring, with Taylor closing out 2014-2015 with three matches in the Mark Richards Classic at Indiana Wesleyan on April 17-18.
