INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor women's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the Butler University Open on Saturday.
Haley White claimed the lone win for the Trojans on Saturday, destroying the competition in the javelin with a toss of 36.05 meters, nearly eight meters ahead of second place in the event.
Kayla Liefeld claimed a ninth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.82 while adding an 11th place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.94. TU's Tara Monfredi and Abigail Phillips finished just behind Liefield in the 200 with times of 26.87 and 27.06 for tenth and 11th place, respectively.
Katie DeHaan clocked a time of 1:02.04 to take fifth place in the 400-meter dash.
TU's 4x100 meter relay team of Liefeld, Princess Sakeuh, Courtney Thompson, and Monfredi took fourth place with a time of 50.09 while the TU 4x400 meter relay team of Phillips, Thompson, Monfredi, and DeHaan added a fifth place finish with a time of 4:17.49.
A pair of TU distance runners also competed on Saturday as Allison Steinbeck and Anissa Richards both competed in the Sam Costa half-marathon. Both runners performed exceptionally well, hitting the automatic qualification mark for the NAIA National Championships in May. Steinbeck crossed the finish line with a time of 1:26.40 to claim third place in the event while Richards took fourth place in the field of 197 runners with a time of 1:28.02.
The Trojans will be back in action next Saturday at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta.
