INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor men's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the Butler University Open on Saturday.
The Trojans saw several runners post strong performances, including multiple victories.
Matt Hall won the second section of the 1500-meter with a time of 3:58.91, finishing 10th in the event overall and taking the top spot among the non-division I runners. Stephen Cho and Scott King finished 26th and 28th in the 1500-meter, respectively.
Noah Clayton won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.75 and added an 11th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.85.
Gage Minniear won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.64.
Leslie Romer set a new school record in a victory in the 100-meter dash. His time of 10.67 provisionally qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, hitting the B-standard. Romer added a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.89.
Kyle Shelton won the second section of the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 1:58.50 to finish seventh in the event overall. David Rodman added a 22nd place finish in the event, crossing the line at 2:04.85. Rodman added a fifth place finish in the javelin throw with a toss of 39.64 meters.
The Trojan 4x100 meter relay team of Trayvon Etsey, Romer, Kentwood Christie, and Minniear took third place with a time of 44.05 while the TU 4x400 meter relay team of Clayton, Romer, Schalk Van Niekerk, and Kyle Shelton claimed sixth place with a time of 3:32.15.
The Trojans will be back in action next Saturday at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta.
