UPLAND, Ind. – On its home courts Saturday, Taylor women's tennis overcame Trine 6-3 to earn its first victory in the spring season in two outings.


The Trojans claimed five of six matches in singles play which proved to be the difference maker, two of which came in closely contested three-set matches.


Katherine Marquez and Sarah Smith were dominant at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. The two sophomores also teamed up to earn Taylor's lone doubles point with an 8-2 win at the No. 1 position.


Rachel Kammer was able to prevail in a back-and-forth match at No. 3 singles, responding after losing the second set to pull out the third 7-6. At No. 4, Betsy Jones cruised to a 6-1 win in the opening set and came away with a positive outcome in the second set tiebreaker. Ashlen Nisley accounted for the final Taylor point by winning her final two sets after dropping the first 5-7.


Complete scores are listed below. Taylor (8-8) will next play at the College of Wooster on Saturday, April 11, a match that is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
