GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Taylor women's track and field team continued its strong spring campaign with a number of solid performances at the DePauw University Invitational on Saturday.
Sarina Oleson claimed a victory in the 800-meter run as the Trojans took four of the top five spots in the race. Oleson moved into fifth on Taylor's all-time fastest times in the 800-meter with her winning time of 2:20.37. Jane Hawks was the next TU runner to cross the finish line, collecting third place with a time of 2:20.90. TU's Jenna Norris and Elaine Schmeltz were not far behind Hawks in fourth and fifth place.
Schmeltz added a victory of her own in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:44.31 which moved the senior into third on TU's all-time list in the event. TU's Shelby Wilson finished fourth with a time of 4:56.76 while Alyssa Hatteberg finished eighth in the race for the Trojans.
Katie DeHaan and Abigal Phillips took second and third place, respectively, in the 400-meter dash with DeHaan narrowly missing the one minute mark with a time of 1:00.10 while Phillips followed with a time of 1:01.57
Alex Berends continued her strong season with a second place finish in the 5000-meter run as the freshman crossed the finish line at 18:03.06, marking the second fastest 5000-meter time in TU program history. Sophomore Taryn Seeland also raced well, finishing at 18:44.23 to climb into TU's all-time top ten in the event.
The Trojans finished fifth out of nine teams at the meet with 72 points while Illinois Wesleyan claimed the meet title with 193 points.
The Trojans will return to action next weekend at the Indiana Little State meet at Indiana Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday
