UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor University women's golf coach Julie Flores announced the 2015 signing class for the Trojans this week. Raquel Helton, Elizabeth Jackson, and Hana Padgett will join the Trojans this fall and will continue their golf careers at Taylor.
"We are excited for these three young women to join our team," Flores said. "Raquel, Elizabeth, and Hana will be great additions to our program and I'm excited to watch them develop over the next four years."
Raquel Helton | Greenwood, Ind. | Center Grove HS
"Raquel is a tall, powerful player who loves the game and has a great work ethic," Flores said. "She has played a lot of tournament golf and has some great tools that will allow her to continue to improve."
Helton helped her Center Grove team to an appearance in the IHSAA State Championship during her senior season. She earned All-MIC and All-Johnson County honors during her senior campaign while shooting 81 in the Johnson County tournament and 82 in the IHSAA sectional. Helton finished in a tie for 64th at the 2014 State Championship. Helton also played in numerous Indiana Junior Golf events, carding four top-10 finishes in five starts in 2014.
The daughter of Jon and Maleah Helton, Raquel plans to major in mathematics and minor in economics at TU.
Elizabeth Jackson | Syracuse, Ind. | Wawasee HS
"Elizabeth is a great athlete with a lot of talent," Flores explained. "She is a hard worker and will be a fantastic addition to our program."
Jackson helped her Wawasee team reach the IHSAA State Championship last fall for the first time since 1986, and added an individual regional berth as a sophomore and junior. The three-time All-Northern Lakes Conference performer was also a team MVP in 2012 and 2013 and a three-year team captain. Jackson was a four-year varsity starter in golf as well as a four-year varsity starter for the Wawasee basketball team. She shot 83 to finish fifth in the sectional and added another 83 in the regional during her senior campaign. She also logged three top ten finishes on the Indiana Junior Golf circuit in 2014.
The daughter of Bruce and Leslie Jackson, Elizabeth plans to major in elementary education while minoring in psychology while at TU.
Hana Padgett | Selma, Ind. | Wapahani HS
"Hana is a hard worker with a love for the game of golf," Flores said. "She enjoys working at the game and getting better and I'm excited to see her improve during her time at Taylor."
Padgett became just the second girl's golfer in Wapahani High School history to qualify for the IHSAA regional during her senior season. She was a two-time first-team all-conference selection as well as a two-time all-county selection.
The daughter of Tim and Rachel Padgett, Hana plans to major in Exercise Science while minoring in psychology at Taylor.
