Box Score

FORT WAYNE - The Taylor women's soccer team took on NCAA Division I IPFW Friday night, falling to the Mastodons 7-0 and moving to 3-3-1 on the season.

IPFW came out attacking early, outshooting the Trojans 21-6 in the first half with 13 of those shots coming on goal. The Mastodons broke the scoring barrier in the 13th-minute off a goal from IPFW's Brooke Bishir. Two minutes following Bishir's goal, the Mastodon's lead was increased to 2-0 after a Taylor own goal.

IPFW continued its first-half scoring barrage in the 20th and 25th-minute to push the lead to 4-0 before the half. Following the Mastodon's fourth goal, Taylor freshman goalie Lauren Engelkes entered the game for the first time since suffering a concussion only 19-minutes into the first game of the season.

IPFW continued its dominating performance in the second half of play, recording three goals in the final 13 minutes of the game. TU kept the Mastodons in check in the early goings of the second half, but gave up a goal in the 77th-minute to trail 5-0. IPFW would strike again in the 83rd and 87th-minute to push the lead to 7-0.

The Trojans were held to nine shots on the night, four of which came by the leg of junior Shelbi Lowe. Sophomore Nikki Zaino recorded two shots, while three other Trojans recorded one. IPFW continued to find their shots in the second half, finishing the game with 31 shot attempts, 20 of which were on goal.

In her return to net, Engelkes tallied six goals on the night while junior goalie Anna Miller, who got the start, finished with seven.

Taylor will be back in action tomorrow night when the team travels to Sylvania, Ohio to take on Lourdes University. The Trojans' next home game will be on Wednesday, September 23 at 4:00 p.m. against Madonna. It will be the final non-conference game for TU before Taylor opens up Crossroads League play next Saturday, September 26 against Bethel.
