GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– The Taylor women's tennis team produced quality individual performances in the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Davenport University, Sept. 17-19.
Junior Katherine Marquez, seeded 13th in the singles main draw, won two matches and advanced to the Round of 16, before falling to fourth seeded Alyssa Fuentes from Davenport University. Senior Rachel Kammer and sophomore Betsy Jones each won matches in the first round of singles competition.
TU's Corinne Hoffman and Courtney Clark faced each other in the second round of the singles consolation draw. Hoffman advanced to the Round of 8 before falling to University of Northwestern Ohio's (UNOH) Bondarenko (6-2, 6-2). Freshman Mikayla Schultz won two matches in the consolation draw, also advancing to the Round of 8.
In doubles action, duos of Marquez and Taelor Grose and Hoffman and Schultz advanced to the second round before falling to doubles teams from UNOH. TU's doubles pair Kammer and Jones advanced to the Round of 4 in the doubles consolation bracket.
"Considering the competition of this tournament, we had a good showing from our girls," Taylor head coach Jini Morgan said. "They got in there and competed well with the teams that play at the top nationally.
"Rachel Kammer and Betsy Jones' win against Huntington in doubles play was a highlight because they lost to them previously this season. All the girls learned about their game and what weapons they need to develop. Everyone had some wins which made it a very successful trip."
The Trojans will play at Goshen University in a Crossroads League battle at 4 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
