UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches with Purdue Calumet and Saint Catherine on Saturday in Odle Arena.

The Trojans (10-11) opened the day with a dominant three-set sweep of Purdue Calumet winning 25-15, 25-18, 25-23. Junior Jessie Arbuckle led the way for Taylor in the victory with 11 kills while fellow junior Kayla Springer added eight terminations.

TU opened the match in impressive fashion, finishing the opening set with a .455 attack percentage after committing just one error and putting away 16 kills on 33 attempts. The Taylor attack cooled in the second set but the Trojans still finished the match with a .279 attack percentage. Senior setter Julia Fahy dished out 33 assists as the maestro of the Taylor offense.

The Taylor defense was also impressive against the Peregrines, limiting Purdue Calumet to a .102 hitting percentage. Junior Alex Reel anchored the Taylor back row with 12 digs while freshman Haley Harrell added career-high nine digs.

The Trojans couldn't muster enough offense to keep up with the high-powered attack for Saint Catherine in the afternoon match. The Patriots (19-8) closed the opening set with five consecutive points to steel the first set from the Trojans 25-23. The Patriots parlayed the momentum into a 25-22 victory in the second set before wrapping up the match with a 25-19 victory in the third set.

Taylor managed a .080 attack percentage for the match with Gerig leading TU with 11 kills. Fahy added 25 assists from her setter position while Alex Reel led the Taylor defense with 25 digs.

The Trojans will now head back into Crossroads League play with a four-match road trip before returning home for another non-conference match with IU-Kokomo on Friday, Oct. 23.
