UPLAND, Ind. – Despite winning the first two sets the Taylor volleyball team fell in five sets to IU Kokomo on Friday night.

The Trojans (13-13) opened the match with an offense that was clicking as TU accumulated 18 kills and just four hitting errors en route to a .298 hitting percentage during a 25-20 victory in the first set. Taylor's offense cooled in the set two but the Trojans still managed a .163 hitting clip and pulled out a 25-23 victory over the Cougars.

The momentum shifted dramatically in the third set as IU Kokomo (27-2) found its offensive rhythm and the Taylor offense floundered. The Trojans committed 12 hitting errors and had only four kills as the Cougars dominated the third set, 25-7 to extend the match.

Taylor regrouped in the fourth set but the Cougar momentum was too much to overcome as IU Kokomo clamed a 25-21 victory to force a fifth game. Taylor scored the first two points of the final set before the Cougars unleashed a flurry of kills en route to a 15-8 win.

Taylor finished the match with negative hitting in each of the final three sets en route to a.050 attack percentage for the match. Sophomore Rachel Bouma led Taylor with 11 kills while senior Casey Allen chipped in nine. Senior setter Julia Fahy dished out 36 assists for the Taylor offense.

The Trojans racked up a season-high 90 digs with junior Alex Reel leading the way with 23 while Fahy added 17 and Becca Gerig finished with 15.

The match was a rare late-season non-conference contest for Taylor as the Trojans will now close out the regular season with three straight home Crossroads League games next week beginning with Grace on Wednesday.
