Game One Box I Game Two Box

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor softball team swept Lourdes University in its home opener, securing 7-4 and 3-0 wins over the Gray Wolves on Friday evening.

After the top of the first inning in game one, the Trojans trailed 2-0 off two TU errors, but quickly recovered, scoring in four straight innings.

The Trojan offense heated up in the second inning after Morgan Allison and Jessie Britt were both hit by a pitch. Freshman Olivia Hostetler laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third base, followed by Alex Lovelace's two RBI single. Junior Anna Gunderson proceeded to hit a standup double, driving Lovelace home and giving TU (7-5) a 4-2 advantage.

TU pitcher Hannah Robbins struck out seven different Gray Wolves in six innings of work.

In game two, Taylor scored two of its three runs in the first inning. Lovelace led off the frame with a single and later stole second base. An error by Lourdes in right field put runners at second and third. Freshman Courtney Moriarty put the Trojans on the board first, with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Lovelace.

Later in the opening stanza, sophomore Davis Carter doubled to left to put TU ahead 2-0.

Senior pitcher Ashley Miller secured her fourth win of the season in the circle, throwing four scoreless innings and striking out four batters.

Junior pitcher Maddie Cornell picked up saves in both contests, giving her three on Taylor's young season.

The Trojans are back in action at Gudakunst Field for a doubleheader against Cincinnati-Clermont with the first game starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.
