INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor women's golf team battled cold temperatures to post a first round team score of 362 in the first round of the Marian Invitational on Monday.
Sophomore Grace Elenbaas carded a round of 87 to lead the Trojans on the 5,806-yard, par-72 layout of Broadmoor Country Club. Freshman Elizabeth Jackson added an 89 while junior Brittany Pfaff fired a 90. Taylor also got a 96 from freshman Raquel Helton while junior Libby Edwards finished with a 98.
The Trojans are in fifth place in the nine-team field. Marian leads after an opening-round 341 followed by Bethel at 345 and Saint Xavier at 347.
Saint Xavier's Taylor Thompson carded the lone round in the 70's, leading all players with a 77 while Bethel's Katie Holdren and Olivet Nazarene's Bridget Wolff are tied for second with 82's. Elenbaas is tied for 11th after her 87.
The final round of the event will be played on Tuesday with a shotgun start scheduled for 11:00 am.
