UPLAND, Ind. – In a Friday night game under the lights at Turner Stadium, Taylor men's soccer defeated Saint Francis (IL) 4-2 for a season-opening win. The Trojans were led by Jeremiah Rader's goal and a career-high two assists.

The flow was slow to start, but Taylor took control of the game from midway through the first half until the final horn. Rader started the scoring in the 21st minute and assisted on a Paul Egenolf goal 10:18 later to put the Trojans in front for good.

Rader's second assist of the night set up Josiah Wieland for the game-winning goal in the 57th minute. TU continued to dominate the time of possession in the final 45 minutes, punctuated by a penalty kick from Gonzalo Iglesias in the 90th minute to cap the scoring.

The goals from Wieland and Iglesias were the first for each in a Trojan uniform. Drew Sezonov was solid in the net, recording three saves, and team captain Gabe Partain added an assist on the Egenolf goal.

The Trojans outshot USF 11-8 in the contest and held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks, including 5-1 in the second half.

TU (1-0) will be back in action at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, August 24, at Lawrence Tech (0-0) in Southfield, Michigan.
