JOLIET, Ill. – Taylor women's soccer (1-0) opened the 2016 season with a 2-0 shutout win over the Fighting Saints (1-1) of Saint Francis (IL) on Thursday night.
The first half was a 0-0 stalemate on the scoreboard, but each team got some looks at the goal. Taylor tallied four shots, while USF attempted six shots.
TU recorded its first goal of the season 7:01 into the second half when Hannah Davis' shot attempt hit off the goalpost, and Rebekah Schwulst placed the rebound into the back of the net to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
A mere three minutes and nine seconds came off the clock before the Trojans struck again with a successful corner kick off the foot of Megan Kammer.
The two goals proved to be plenty of offense as Lauren Engelkes pitched a six-save shutout in the net.
Next on the schedule for the Trojans is a road trip to Chicago to face Roosevelt (1-1) at 2:00 pm on Saturday.
