MARION, Ind. – A duo of freshmen led the Taylor women's golf team on the opening day of the 2016-17 campaign at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on Friday.


Freshman Annie Stimmel carded an 80 while fellow freshman Maddie Thomas added an 82 to lead TU to a team score of 336, tying the school record for the lowest single-round team total.


Taylor also got a pair of 87's from sophomore Raquel Helton and junior Grace Elenbaas while senior Brittany Pfaff finished with an 88 to round out the top five scoring for the Trojans.


Sophomore Elizabeth Jackson turned in an 83 playing as an individual and freshman Lauren Murphy added an 88. Freshman Alexis Harris carded a 101 as an individual as well.


The Trojans finished round one in fourth place in the 8-team field. Indiana Wesleyan leads the field with a score of 316, followed by Grace (329) and #RV Olivet Nazarene (330).


Saturday's final round is slated to begin with a 9:00 am shotgun start.
