GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– The Taylor women's tennis team produced quality individual performances in the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Davenport University, September 15-17.
Freshman Alexa Kling and junior Annika Zeilstra both went 1-1 in in the singles main draw. Sophomore Taelor Grose played her way to the round of 8 in the singles consolation draw. Mikayla Schultz, Corinne Hoffman and Ashlen Nisley each played their way to the round of 16 in the consolation draw, before being eliminated. Freshman Molly Pile also competed in the singles main draw.
Sophomore Molly Fletchall earned three consecutive victories in straight sets to win the B singles main draw competition. Fletchall faced her teammate Betsy Jones in the semifinals. Sophomore Courtney Clark went 1-1 in the B singles main draw. Senior Ashley Cook also competed in B singles for TU.
In doubles action, Clark and Zeilstra paired to go 1-1. The duo fell to No. 1 seeded Lopez and Marquez from UNOH in the round of 16.
Fletchall and Grose teamed up, earning a spot in the doubles consolation finals. The sophomore team fell in the finals to Indiana Wesleyan's Smith and Klein. Taylor's Schultz and Jones went 0-2 in doubles play.
"The competition at our ITA is truly some of the best in the nation," Taylor head coach Jini Morgan said. "It gives us a chance to see where we need to improve to move up in our conference and teaches us to fight at a higher level of play."
TU will next travel to Grace College on Tuesday, September 20. The Crossroads League match will begin at 3:30 pm.
