UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor men's tennis team split its doubleheader on Saturday, defeating Crossroads League foe Goshen College 5-4, and later falling 7-2 to Davenport University.
Freshman Andre Danelli was the final Trojan competing, and his victory at No. 3 singles gave Taylor its winning point.
"It was another classic match that came down to the last match on the court," Taylor head coach Don Taylor said. "Goshen is a very good team. On the final court, Andre won the first set in a tiebreaker and then it came down to a tiebreaker in the second. He was able to pull it out 7-2. It was another great victory for us in our conference, and it helps put us in a good position to host in the first round of the league tournament."
Ramirez earned both of the Trojans' points against the Panthers at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, making his combined record in both contests 4-0.
"Davenport was a strong team and some of our starters weren't up to playing to their full potential after long matches against Goshen," Coach Taylor said. "We had a good run in doubles, we won at No. 1 and we lost in close matches at both No. 2 and No. 3. Juan had struggled earlier in the season, but I think he is playing some of his best tennis right now which is good to see as we near the end of the season."
Taylor will next face Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday, September 27 at Meier Tennis Courts. The Crossroads League match will begin at 4 pm (ET).
