SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Junior Nick Waskom carded a two-round total of 140 (-4) to win individual medalist honors at lead the Taylor men's golf team to the team title in the Battle at Blackthorn on Saturday.
Waskom entered Saturday's final round with a two shot advantage over teammate Alec Dutkowski after an opening round score of 69 on Friday. The junior from Columbus, Indiana took care of business on Saturday with a round of one-under 71 to edge IU South Bend's Brayden Glaser by a stroke for the tournament title. The victory is the second of Waskom's career.
The Trojans entered Saturday's round with an eight shot lead over Saint Francis and TU extended its lead on Saturday with a final round score of 293 (+5) as Taylor claimed the tournament title with a dominant 20-shot victory.
Dutkowski's two-round total of even par 144 (71-73) earned the 2016 third-team All-American a third place finish while Lamping's total of 148 (76-72) earned the junior a fifth place finish. Turner also notched a top ten with a tie for 10th place at 141 (74-77) followed by Rinken in a tie for 16th at 153 (76-77).
The tournament title is Taylor's third in four starts this fall and brings Taylor head-to-head record to 35-2 on the season.
Taylor is back in action on Monday and Tuesday when the Trojans host 19 teams in the 2016 Egypt Valley Intercollegiate at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada, Michigan.
