Box Score

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor men's soccer team defeated Grace, 1-0, with 43 seconds remaining in overtime on Saturday, securing the team's first conference win of the season.

TU (3-7-2, 1-2 CL) had two quality scoring opportunities early in the first half, but could not convert. Gonzalo Iglesias had a header attempt that barely sailed over the crossbar, and senior Nate West narrowly missed wide of the net on a good look from about 10 yards out.

The Lancers (6-3-2, 1-2 CL) also had their fair share of looks at the goal, with five shots in the first half, compared to four for the hosts. The second half was very similar, with the shot tally at 6-5 in favor of the Trojans.

At the end of regulation, Grace gave Taylor quite a scare with two great scoring chances. The latter was a shot within five yards of the goal that was knocked away by Lewis Nisbet, inches away from giving the Lancers a 1-0 lead with less than 20 seconds remaining.

The Trojans took full advantage of the extra time, giving themselves multiple opportunities to break the tie. Iglesias converted on the game-winner from just outside the goal, courtesy of a terrific cross from Jeremiah Rader.

Goalkeeper Luke Williams recorded a pair of saves in the shutout for the victors.

Up next for TU is a match at Turner Stadium against Bethel (7-5, 2-1 CL) at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 5.
