UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's tennis team is set to host Grace College in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 4 at Meier Tennis Courts.
Entering the tournament, TU finished its fall season with a 9-4 overall record and a 5-3 record in the Crossroads League. The No. 4 seeded Trojans have earned a home match over the Lancers, who are seeded fifth. TU defeated Grace, 7-2, in an away match on September 20.
Sophomore Molly Fletchall and freshman Alexa Kling have led Taylor this season at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Fletchall finished with a 12-2 overall record, while Kling ended 9-6. In doubles, Fletchall and classmate Taelor Grose played consistently at the No. 1 spot, with an overall record of 12-5 and a 5-2 record in the Crossroads League.
"Playoff time is bittersweet," Taylor head coach Jini Morgan said. "It signals the nearing end of our time with our seniors as well as the end of our time together on court as a team."
"We are mentally ready to face Grace again and are hopeful for the same outcome. We had to play smart tennis to get the first win against Grace and will have to be even more prepared as both teams have had some good wins. One way to measure a successful season aside from the win/loss record is to see how we have improved against the top teams in the conference. I believe our competition this year has sharpened our team for the better. All in all, we are ready to compete."
Undefeated Indiana Wesleyan University earned the No. 1 seed heading into post-season play. The winning team in Tuesday's match will face the winner of IWU and No. 8 seeded University of Saint Francis in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals on Thursday, October 6.
Tuesday's match will begin at 4 pm (ET). The link at the top of the story will provide updates about the tournament directly from the Crossroads League.
