INDIANAPOLIS – Defending national champion and No. 1 Marian continued its undefeated campaign on Saturday with a 48-14 Homecoming win over Taylor at Saint Vincent Field.
The Knights (6-0, 3-0 MSFA) kept TU off the scoreboard until the final minute of the third quarter, when a 22-yard touchdown pass from Everett Pollard to Hans Lundberg broke up a 34-0 shutout. Pollard later connected with Caleb Nicley on a short nine-yard touchdown to make it a 41-14 contest and MU scored on the ensuing drive to cap the scoring.
The Trojans were hurt by turnovers for the second-straight week, losing a pair of fumbles and tossing an interception. The offense also struggled to move the ball on the ground against the NAIA's second-ranked defense with only 26 yards on 26 attempts.
Pollard managed 218 yards and the two scores through the air on 22 completions, as Nicley caught seven passes for 80 yards and the touchdown, with Daniel Boy catching four passes and Lundberg pulling in a touchdown among three receptions.
Matt Nguyen provided TU's two defensive takeaways in the contest, recovering a fumble and intercepting a pass to go with seven tackles. Dovi Gamble also had seven stops and Blake Wheeler led the roster with eight tackles, while Ben Rupert notched Taylor's only sack.
Taylor (2-5, 0-3 MSFA) will look to bounce back on October 15 when it welcomes RV Siena Heights (3-2, 2-2 MSFA) to Turner Stadium for a 1:00 pm start. The game will highlight TU's Homecoming and Family Weekend, and its Hall of Fame Class of 2016 will be formally inducted at halftime.
