PLYMOUTH, Ind. – Taylor sophomore Raquel Helton carded a round of 79 to lead the Taylor women's golf team on the final day of the Swan Lake Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon.
Helton converted a tricky up and down from behind the green on her final hole of the day to secure a round of 7-over par 79 on the 5,847-yard, par-72 layout at Swan Lake Resort. Freshman Annie Stimmel added a round of 80 for TU while fellow freshman Maddie Thomas fired an 81. Taylor's fourth score came from senior Brittany Pfaff who carded a 90 while sophomore Elizabeth Jackson added a 90 as the Trojans totaled a team score of 330 in the final round.
Taylor entered the final round tied for fifth place with IU East and the Trojans were able to pull ahead of IU East on Saturday to claim fifth place all alone. The Trojans carded a two round total of 661 (331-330), finishing just seven shots behind #RV Bethel and three shots clear of Grace.
Helton finished with a two round total of 163 (84-79) to finish in a tie for 15th to lead Taylor. Stimmel finished tied for 20th with a total of 165 (85-80) while Thomas finished 26th and Pfaff finished 28th in the 73-player field.
Defending Crossroads League champion and 17th-ranked Marian claimed the team title with a two round total of 621 (308-313) followed by Cardinal Stritch and 636 (320-316) and Saint Francis at 646 (318-328).
Cardinal Stritch's Hannah Stradling and IU East's Bre Nowak tied for individual medalist honors at 151 while Stradling defeated Nowak in a sudden-death playoff to claim the individual title.
The tournament marked the conclusion of the fall season for the Trojans who finished in the top five in four of five events this fall.
