UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's soccer team fell to Saint Francis, 1-0, at Turner Stadium on Saturday night in the Crossroads League Quarterfinals, knocking the Trojans out of the tournament.
The 17th-ranked Trojans (14-2-1, 7-1-1 CL) dominated the first half, outshooting USF 8-2 in the opening stanza and possessing the ball most of the 45 minutes. Despite the shot discrepancy, the score was knotted, 0-0, at halftime.
The Cougars (8-9-2, 3-5-1 CL) broke the tie in the 50th minute when Mackenzie Starcevich received a long pass in the box, dribbled herself into position and drilled a shot into the back of the net to secure the 1-0 lead for Saint Francis.
Taylor had several opportunities in the final 40 minutes to tie the score, but the Trojans could not convert those chances, finalizing the 1-0 victory for the visitors.
TU has left its mark in the record books this season, setting program-bests for wins (14), shutouts (11), and goals-against-per-game (0.65). The Trojans also cracked the NAIA Top-25 for the first time in program history and reached the highest ranking in team history (No. 16).
No. 17 Taylor (14-2-1, 7-1-1 CL) will now wait for the NAIA National Tournament Field to be announced on November 14 to see if the Trojans earned an at-large berth.
