UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor will wrap up its 2016 season on Saturday, November 12, when it welcomes Trinity International into Turner Stadium for a 1:00 pm Senior Day start.
SENIOR DAY: Taylor's 2016 seniors include Brandon Haan, Caleb Nicley, Kyle Windebank, Wilson Alexander, Nate Martinez, Richardson Giordani, Tim Barrett, Blake Wheeler, Taylor Beam, Hans Lundberg, Jay Johnson and Josh Keith. The group of seniors has helped Taylor to 21 victories over the past four seasons, including a 12-8 mark at Turner Stadium. The group has also helped TU rank second, fourth and first over the past three years among all NAIA football programs in team grade-point average.
SCOUTING TAYLOR: Turnovers have plagued the Trojans this season, as Taylor has turned the ball over 21 times in 10 games. Those numbers have been magnified on the road, where TU has committed 14 miscues in six games. In Taylor's four victories, it has averaged 1.8 turnovers per game compared to 2.3 in six defeats.
SCOUTING TRINITY INTERNATIONAL: The Trojans enter Saturday's season finale ranked No. 22 in the NAIA with over 200 yards of rushing per game, led by 99.5 yards per outing from Isaac Branch. TIU has struggled defensively however, allowing nearly 40 points and 500 total yards of offense per contest.
LAST MEETING: Taylor racked up 27 second-half points to power past Trinity International for a 34-28 victory one year ago. TU ran for 285 yards on the ground on 59 carries and completed 12 passes for 195 yards in the comeback victory to cap the season.
SERIES HISTORY: Taylor and Trinity International have split their previous 14 meetings on the gridiron with TU having scored victories in each of the past three affairs. The last time these two programs faced off in Upland was back on October 24 of 2009, when Taylor routed TIU for a 48-7 victory.
GAMBLE EARNS NATIONAL AWARD: Taylor's Dovi Gamble was named the MSFA Mideast League and NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, after returning a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, blocking two punts and intercepting a pass in the end zone during overtime of TU's 48-45 double-overtime win at Lindenwood. Gamble is the only MSFA athlete to receive the NAIA National Player-of-the-Week award this season.
TAYLOR RECEIVES ACADEMIC HONORS: Taylor recently collected five CoSIDA Academic All-District II awards, with Brandon Haan, Caleb Nicley, Blake Wheeler, Daniel Boy and Hans Lundberg earning the prestigious honor. TU's five awards were the most of any team in the district, which includes all NAIA and two-year institutions from Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee.
