UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's basketball team conducted a furious second-half rally, but came up short against No. 6 Saint Xavier, 81-71, on Saturday.

Saint Xavier (7-0) scored the game's first nine points to take control in the early going, but TU ended the opening quarter on a 9-2 run to close the gap to 21-16 after 10 minutes of action.

The Trojans (4-4, 1-0 CL) cut the lead to three points just over two minutes into the second quarter, but SXU inflated the lead to 18 with a 17-2 run over the ensuing four minutes. During the pivotal period, the Cougars shot 52.9 percent and outscored the Trojans 23-10 to open up the 18-point halftime lead.

The Cougars seemed to pick up in the second half right where they left off in the first half, scoring the opening bucket of the third quarter to extend their lead to a game-high 20 points, but TU responded with an 8-0 scoring run over the next 78 seconds to cut the SXU lead down to 12 with eight minutes left to play in the third period. After a basket by Saint Xavier, Kendall Bradbury's deuce and Cassidy Wyse's trey shaved the lead to single digits. A 9-2 run for the visitors expanded the lead back up to 16 with 4:06 to play in the third quarter and the Cougars led by 13 after 30 minutes of action.

In the final stanza, Saint Xavier inflated its cushion up to a 17-point lead with five minutes remaining, giving the Trojans every reason to surrender. Instead, TU ripped off a 13-4 run to slice the deficit to six with 1:51 left to play. The sixth-ranked Cougars would not allow Taylor to get any closer, shutting the door on the Trojans' fourth-quarter rally with a bucket and five made free-throws over the final 1:16 of game action.

The Trojans proved to be Saint Xavier's toughest game of the young season, as the 11-point win was SXU's smallest margin of victory this season, and the 81 points scored was the Cougars' lowest scoring output of the year.

Bradbury led the Trojans with 21 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds. Wyse registered her second-straight double-double by notching 17 points and ripping down a career-high 17 boards. Josie Cobb added nine points and four rebounds, while Aubrey Wright contributed seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Trojans.

RV Taylor (4-4, 1-0 CL) will travel to Spring Arbor on Wednesday to take on the Cougars (5-3, 0-1 CL) at 7:00 pm in Crossroads League action.
