WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Taylor women's basketball team suffered its worst offensive performance of the season on Saturday, falling to Grace, 51-42.
The Trojans started well, getting out to an 11 to four lead to begin the contest. TU was held scoreless over the final 4:57 of the period, however, and Grace recorded the final seven points of the quarter to tie the game at 11 after 10 minutes of play.
Grace (12-10, 7-3 CL) extended its lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Trojans 19 to seven to hold a 30-18 halftime lead. TU had six made field goals and seven turnovers in the opening half.
The Lancers pushed the lead to 34-20 with 8:39 left in the third quarter, but Taylor responded with a seven-point outburst to cut the lead to seven with 4:10 remaining in the period. The two squads traded baskets the rest of the way, with Grace taking a 43-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
GC continued to hold the lead, possessing an eleven-point advantage with 1:43 left in the game, but Josie Cobb put together a five-point run of her own to make it a 48-42 lead for the home team with 1:12 remaining. The Trojans' comeback attempt came up short, though, as TU could not muster another bucket the rest of the way, allowing the Lancers to secure the 51-42 victory.
Taylor shot a season-low 23.6 percent (13-of-55) from the floor and scored a season-low 42 points in the loss.
Taylor (9-13, 4-6 CL) will host Spring Arbor (11-11, 2-8 CL) inside Odle Arena on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in its next contest.
