ALLENDALE, Mich. – For the first time this season the Taylor men's track and field team fielded a full squad and the Trojans did not disappoint at the Grand Valley State Mike Lints Open.
Senior Leslie Romer turned in one of the most impressive performances of the day for TU as the All-American clocked a time of 6.90 to finish third in the 60-meter dash.
Freshman Caleb Anthony was equally impressive in the second meet of his collegiate career, clocking a time of 8.17 en route to a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.
Sophomore Ben Byrd won his section of the mile with a lifetime personal record of 4:21.31 to take 15th place overall.
Senior Tanner Dye finished 19th in the 3,000-meters, shattering his lifetime personal best by 12 seconds with a time of 8:47.61.
Junior Joseph Beamish posted a 13th place finish in the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:36.82 followed closely by freshman Hunter Smith in 18th place with a time of 15:45.40. Jonathan Taylor finished in 27th place at 15:55.25 and Aaron Scott in 39th at 16:26.42.
Taylor's 4x400-meter relay team won its heat and finished 10th overall with a time of 3:24.38.
Harry Dantona's toss of 15.62 meters was a new personal record and earned the senior a 12th place in the weight throw.
Taylor tallied a total of 14 points to finish in 14th place out of 21 total scoring teams. The Trojans return to action next Saturday at the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic.
