MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – TU's Cassidy Wyse netted 14 points in Saturday's 73-62 loss at Mount Vernon Nazarene, making the junior forward the 24th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
The Trojans jumped out to an 18-to-nine lead over the first eight minutes of action, but three unanswered buckets from MVNU cut the TU lead to 18-15 at the end of the first quarter.
Taylor converted three field goals of its own to begin the second quarter, giving the Trojans a 24-15 lead with eight minutes left until halftime. TU led by at least seven through most of the remainder of the half, but Mount Vernon closed the second period the same way as the first quarter, making it a 32-31 Trojan lead at intermission.
TU extended its lead slightly in the early stages of the third quarter, taking a 40-35 lead with 6:43 to go in the period. However, the Cougars found their rhythm and outscored the Trojans 22-to-eight over the final six minutes of the stanza to go up 57-48 heading into the final quarter.
MVNU (10-16, 4-10 CL) continued its offensive surge in the fourth quarter, as the hosts outscored TU 11-to-four to push the lead out to a game-high 18 points with 2:49 remaining in the game.
Wyse's hoop at the 1:57 mark put the Archbold, Ohio native into the 1,000-point club and started an eight-to-zero spurt for the Trojans, but the Cougars converted three-of-four free throws in the final minute to finalize the 73-62 victory for Mount Vernon.
Kendall Bradbury recorded her 12th double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to lead TU. Wyse added five rebounds and three assists to her 14 points, while Aubrey Wright posted nine points, four boards, and a team-high three steals for the Trojans.
Taylor (11-15, 6-8 CL) will host cross-county rival No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan (16-9, 9-4 CL) at Paul Patterson Court on Wednesday in its next contest.
