WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The 2016-2017 season came to an end for the Taylor University women's basketball team on Tuesday, as the Trojans fell, 66-58, at Grace in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals.
Taylor led by one, 12-11, after a low-scoring first period, and trailed by a single point at the half, 25-24. TU converted just nine-of-33 (27 percent) shots from the floor in the first 20 minutes, while also being outrebounded, 23-12, by the Lancers.
The two squads traded baskets over the first few minutes of the second half, and the Trojans took a slim, 35-34 lead with 6:30 left in the third quarter.
Taylor (13-18) would go into an offensive dry spell until the 8:10 mark of the fourth quarter, as Grace outscored the Trojans 20-to-four in that span to take a 54-39 lead. The Lancers kept the lead in double-digits for the rest of the game, until a few late buckets by TU to make the 66-58 final score.
Grace (15-16) held a severe advantage on the glass, outrebounding Taylor, 45-27 in the contest.
Kendall Bradbury led the Trojans with 18 points and 13 rebounds, giving the sophomore her 14th double-double of the year. Cassidy Wyse added nine points and four assists, while Josie Cobb produced eight points and seven rebounds for TU.
The loss marked the end of a stellar four-year career for TU senior Monica Compton, who played in 81 career games, averaging 6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per outing for the Trojans.
