Game One Box | Game Two Box

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The TU softball team scored a sweep of Manchester on Thursday, notching a 10-0 win in five innings in the first contest and a 6-3 victory in the second game to improve to 8-7 on the season.

Taylor held a 3-0 lead after three innings in the first outing of the day and broke the game wide open with a seven-run fourth inning to take a 10-0 lead into the fifth stanza. Since the Trojans held Manchester scoreless, the game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Alex Lovelace, Hannah Castor and Courtney Moriarty led the charge with two hits apiece, while Lovelace added two runs and Castor and Moriarty each drove in three runs.

In the circle, senior Hannah Robbins pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out five Spartans to earn the win for Taylor.

In the second tilt, TU jumped out to a 6-0 lead after back-to-back three-run innings in the third and fourth frames.

Manchester (0-5-1) cut the lead in half with three runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth, but Taylor kept MU off the board the rest of the way to secure the 6-3 win and a doubleheader sweep.

Lovelace and Castor each provided two more hits in the second game, with Castor adding two runs and two RBIs as well. Lauren Ehle went 3-for-4 from the dish, while Cassie Kuizin and Davis Carter each chipped in two hits to the cause.

The 15 hits in the second contest were the most for the Trojans in any game this season.

Taylor (8-7) will return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 14, when the team travels to RV Indiana Wesleyan (13-3) for its Crossroads League-opening doubleheader against the cross-county rival Wildcats at 4:00 pm.
