Box Score

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor stole 10 bases without getting caught and picked up a 5-1 non-league win over Lourdes on a frigid afternoon at Winterholter Field. The Trojans also turned two double plays and had four pitchers hold the Gray Wolves to zero earned runs in the all-around team effort.

Colin Eggleson (2-0) went five efficient frames in his first start of the season, allowing only two hits and one unearned run while striking out five batters to pick up the win. The senior was followed to the bump by Andrew Kennedy, Clay Riggins and Brett Lawson and the trio combined for four scoreless frames to close out the victory.

Taylor utilized its speed to claim a 1-0 lead in the second, as Austin Mettica singled and was replaced on the bases by Kyle Kelsheimer who promptly swiped second and later scored on a bunt single by Sam Wiese.

TU pushed the lead to 4-0 in the third, with Nathan Targgart blasting an opposite field blast for a 3-0 lead and Mettica plating Jared Adkins with an RBI single two batters later. The Trojans scored again in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead and cruised to the 5-1 win.

Targgart and Mettica turned in multi-hit games for Taylor, with Targgart homering and tripling to pace the Trojan lineup. Josh Lane and Tanner Watson each walked twice from the top two spots in the order, while Adkins, Kelsheimer and Wyatt Whitman each stole two bags to account for six of TU's 10 thefts.

Taylor (11-10, 0-0 CL) will open Crossroads League play over the weekend when it hosts Spring Arbor (7-12, 0-0 CL). TU and SAU will play a single game on Friday at 5:00 pm, before playing a 1:00 pm doubleheader on Saturday.
