NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Taylor women's golf team carded a score of 346 in the opening round of the Purgatory Intercollegiate Invitational at Purgatory Golf Club on Friday.
Winds gusting 20-30 miles per hour made the already challenging Purgatory Golf Club even more demanding on Friday but the Trojans managed to remain within striking distance of the lead as TU trails tournament-leader Olivet Nazarene by only two shots entering Saturday's final round.
Sophomore Raquel Helton led the way for TU on Friday with a round of 85 and enters Saturday in a tie for third. Freshmen Maddie Thomas and Annie Stimmel joined senior Brittany Pfaff with 87's while sophomore Elizabeth Jackson finished with a 92 as TU's drop score.
Olivet Nazarene's Makenzie Mehaffey holds the individual lead at 8-over par 80 while ONU leads Taylor by two after a first-round 344.
Saturday's final round will begin with a 9:30 am shotgun start.
