FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Led by freshman Maddie Thomas the Taylor women's golf team climbed to the top of the leaderboard during the first round of the Huntington Invitational at Brookwood Golf Course on Thursday.


Thomas tallied her fifth round of the season in the 70's with an opening round 79 on Thursday. The freshman from Westlake, Ohio holds the round one lead as the only player in the 22-player field to score in the 70's.


Taylor carded a team score of 334 in the first round, counting Thomas's 79 along with an 84 from sophomore Raquel Helton, and 85 from senior Brittany Pfaff, and an 86 from junior Grace Elenbaas. Sophomore Elizabeth Jackson finished with a 91 as TU's drop score.


The Trojans hold a 14-shot lead over Mount Vernon Nazarene heading into Friday's final round which is slated to begin with an 8:30 am shotgun start.
