NAIA Softball Selection Show

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor University softball team will find out whether its 2017 campaign will continue tonight at 7:00 pm, as the NAIA will release the 40 qualifiers for the opening round of the national tournament via a selection show at the link provided above.

The 40-team field consists of 31 automatic bids and nine at-large teams. The Crossroads League has two automatic bids, which were earned by fourth-ranked Marian and RV Indiana Wesleyan. Marian earned the first automatic bid by winning the regular-season title. Since the Knights could not take both the regular-season and tournament champion bids, the second automatic bid went to the tournament runner-up, IWU, despite MU winning both the regular-season and tournament titles.

Due to both automatic bids being taken, the Trojans must wait for the selection show at 7:00 pm to find out if they received one of the remaining nine at-large bids, which will be given to the nine highest-ranked teams without an automatic bid in the final national rankings, which will be released tonight. Taylor was ranked 27th with 51 votes in the latest national poll on May 2.
