UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor University men's soccer team opened the 2017 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Robert Morris in its season opener at Turner Stadium Saturday night.

The Trojans (1-0) dominated possession in the first half, as most of the period was played on RMU's half of the pitch and TU outshot the Eagles, 6-2. The shot advantage proved fruitful in the 17th minute, when Charbel Salako's header found the back of the net off of Zoltan Suranyi's corner kick and gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead at the intermission. The goal was the first of Salako's TU career and the assist was the first as a Trojan for Suranyi.

Robert Morris (0-1) equalized with 30:23 remaining in the contest, but Sam Hardy netted the game-winner three minutes later to reclaim the lead with just over 27 minutes to go in regulation.

In the 32nd minute, Wes Shupe provided an insurance goal for the Purple and Gold, courtesy of an assist by Hardy, to make the final tally.

Taylor's first-half dominance of possession continued throughout the game, as the Trojans finished the night with a decisive 19-5 advantage in shots and 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

TU (1-0) begins a four-game road trip with a trip to Joliet, Illinois, to take on the Fighting Saints of Saint Francis (IL) at 8:00 pm on Tuesday.
