UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's tennis team will kick off their 2017 fall season on Thursday, August 24 when they host the Blue Devils from Lawrence Tech. The match is slated to start at 1:00 p.m. on the Meier Tennis Courts.
The Trojans return to the courts after a strong 2016-17 campaign that landed TU an overall record of 10-8 and a fourth-place finish in the Crossroads League with a league mark of 5-3. This season, Taylor will accompany their eight-game league schedule with contests against Lawrence Tech, Wittenberg University, Indiana University Kokomo, Cedarville University and Indiana Tech. TU will also compete at the Marian Doubles Tournament and the ITA Regionals.
This season, TU should not suffer from a lack of experience. Taylor's returning core was responsible for 41 of the 42 individual match victories last season in Crossroads League play. The team will look to All-Crossroads League performer Molly Fletchall to have another standout season after a 15-5 sophomore campaign in the No. 1 singles position. Alexa Kling and Taelor Grose will also shoulder a great deal of the workload after both picking up double-digit wins on the singles court in the top half of last year's lineup. The Trojans will also enjoy the return of Mikayla Schultz and Molly Pile who both turned in winning records, playing primarily in the No. 4 and No. 6 singles slots.
After opening the season at home against Lawrence Tech, TU will make their way to Indianapolis to compete at the Marian Doubles Tournament on August 26. The first league contest of the fall will take place back in Upland on the Meier Tennis Courts when TU welcomes the Pilots from Bethel College on August 29.
