INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor men's tennis team competed in the Marian University Doubles Tournament on Saturday.
The tournament consisted of three flights (A, B and C). Doubles teams competed from various schools, including Lawrence Tech University, Grace College, University of Saint Francis, Indiana Southeast and Marian University.
Stephen All and Alex Jung finished second in Flight B. The pair topped Winchell and Shammas of Indiana Southeast, 8-6, in the opening round and Overlander and Tomeh of Saint Francis, 8-2 in the second round, before falling, 8-3, to Colarossi and Wenzel of Lawrence Tech in the final match.
Andre Danelli and Salvador Lo Cascio took down Christiliev and Stavretis from Saint Francis, 8-2, in the opening round of Flight B, but fell to Colarossi and Wenzel from Lawrence Tech, 8-4, in the second round. The duo recovered to top Christiliev and Stavretis again, 8-4, to take home a third-place finish for Taylor.
Bryant Barger and Patrick Warren earned a fourth-place finish in Flight C. Barger and Warren won the opening round convincingly, 8-1, over Marian's Blessing and Lesnick, before being ousted by Fensler and Kelly of Indiana Southeast.
"Overall, I thought we played pretty well," said head coach Don Taylor. "We obviously have areas to improve, but one of the biggest takeaways is it gave our doubles teams an opportunity to have multiple matches to get used to playing together, which will pay dividends as the season progresses."
Taylor (0-1) will return to the Meier Tennis Courts for its Crossroads League home-opener against Bethel at 3:00 pm on August 29.
