INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Last Saturday, the Taylor women's tennis team competed in the Marian University Doubles Tournament and captured two runner-up finishes.
The tournament consisted of three pools, two of which were structured into brackets and one that was played in a round robin, pool-play format. Doubles teams from Grace College, University of Saint Francis, Indiana Southeast, Marian University and Taylor participated in the event.
The Trojans placed two sets of doubles teams in both Pool A and Pool B, finishing with second and seventh place-honors in each pool.
In Pool A, Molly Fletchall and Mikayla Schultz took second place by defeating Frank and Hawes from IUSE 8-1 and downing Sunga and Betscher from Marian 8-5 before falling in the championship match 9-7 to Marian's Taylor and Lueken. In the same pool, Taelor Grose and Courtney Clark finished seventh after back-to-back losses and a final-round victory over Haas and Gibson from Saint Francis.
Annika Zeilstra and Corinne Hoffman took runner-up honors in Pool B after earning a trip to the championship match with wins over Lehman and Richardson from USF and Applegate and Greenwell from IUSE. In the final, the tandem was retired 8-2 by Mullaney and Wood of Marian. Taking seventh in Pool B was Alexa Kling and Katelyn Gray who rebounded after two losses to win their final match over Lehman and Richardson 8-3.
The Trojans will open Crossroads League play on Tuesday when they host Bethel College at 3:00 p.m.
