UPLAND, Ind. - The Taylor men's tennis team rebounded nicely after suffering their first league loss on Tuesday to defeat the University of Saint Francis 7-2. Taylor (2-2, 2-1 CL) sealed the victory over Saint Francis (0-4, 0-4 CL) by winning five singles matches before adding two victories in doubles play.
The Trojans made an early statement by winning five of the six singles matches, which sealed the team win before the doubles teams had even taken the court. While the bottom of the TU lineup tore through the Cougars in straight sets, Christen Jacquottet picked up the fifth singles win in comeback style, outlasting Austin Overlander 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-4.
Having the match in hand, TU continued to battle, winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles contests behind dominating performances from Stephen All, Alex Jung, Jacob Scott and Victor Cheng. The two teams combined to nearly blank USF by winning 8-1 and 8-0, respectively
"Today was a good rebound for us after losing to Marian," said Coach Don Taylor. "We played well through the singles lineup, which took a lot of pressure off our doubles. Due to some injuries and sickness, we moved up some guys. They stepped up and played very well in those positions."
TU will get back in action on Saturday, facing their third league opponent of the week on a road trip to Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
