AVON, Ohio – Hunter Smith was named the Crossroads League Male Runner of the Week on Tuesday, after the sophomore scored his first collegiate win by topping the field at the Indiana Wesleyan Invite on September 8.
Smith finished first among 113 competitors at the meet, ripping off a personal-best time of 25:40.8 for the first sub-26:00 mark of his young career. The time was 31 seconds faster than Smith's previous personal-best and cleared freshman teammate, Josh Roth, by 2.6 seconds for first place.
Taylor put six individuals inside the top-12 in the race, including Smith, winning the team title with a time of 130:37 and 26 points to top RV and host IWU's total of 52 points.
The honor is the first collegiate award for Smith, who was joined by Sarah Harden of the women's cross country team and Haley Harrell of the volleyball squad in earning Crossroads League recognition on Tuesday.
Smith and the No. 15 Trojans (8-0) will be right back in action on September 15 at the Crossroads League Preview in Carmel, Indiana at 3:45 pm.
