SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Taylor freshman Nicole Jung picked up her second collegiate victory in as many starts with a win on Saturday at the Battle of Blackthorn.
Jung fired a final round score of 78 to finish with a two-day total of 153 (75-78) to edge Bethel's Katie Brooks by one shot for the individual title.
The Trojans counted four scores in the 70's on Saturday with freshman Taylor French leading the way at 77 followed by 78's from Jung and junior Elizabeth Jackson and a 79 from sophomore Maddie Thomas as TU tallied a team score of 312.
The Trojans surpassed first-round leader #RV Saint Francis on the final day but the hosts from Bethel charged ahead with a blistering final round score of 301 to edge Taylor for the team title.
Thomas earned her second top five finish in as many starts this season with a tie for third place at 155 (76-79) while French finished in a tie for 11th place at 160 (83-77).
Jackson finished tied for 18th at 165 (87-78) followed by fellow junior Raquel Helton in a tie for 32nd place at 172 (85-87).
Taylor finished with a two-round total of 631, 11 shots behind Bethel. The Trojans bested Crossroads League foes Saint Francis 645 (317-328) and Indiana Wesleyan 650 (327-323).
The Trojans return to action on September 29-30 at the Saint Francis Invitational in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
