SOUTH BEND, Ind. – All-American Alec Dutkowski fired a 5-under par 67 on Saturday to lead the 13th-ranked Taylor men's golf team to a run-away victory in the Battle of Blackthorn.
Dutkowski set a new Taylor record with a 36-hole total of 8-under par 136 (69-67) en route to a five shot win over teammate Mitch Lamping 141 (71-70).
The Trojans fired the lowest team score on the day on Saturday with a 2-under par team total of 286. Along with Dutkowski's 67 and Lamping's 70 the Trojans also counted a 74 from senior Nick Waskom and a 75 from junior Jeremy Ray. Senior Trey Turner added a 76 to round of the scoring for Taylor.
With a two-round total of 1-over par 577 (291-286) the Trojans bested second place Purdue-Northwest by 18 shots. Holy Cross (602) finished in third followed by Indiana Wesleyan (607) in fourth place.
All five Trojans finished inside the top ten in the individual standings with Waskom finishing in a tie for eighth place at 150 (76-74) while Ray (76-75) and Turner (75-76) tied for 10th place at 151.
The Trojans will be back in action on Monday with a one-day, 36-hole event at Eagle Eye Golf Club in Lansing, Michigan.
