UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor volleyball ran its winning streak to four games on Wednesday evening with a sweep of IU East inside Odle Arena.

 

The Trojans (12-4) utilized a balanced offensive attack and scrappy defense to knock off IU East for the second time this season.

 

Senior Becca Gerig tallied a game-high nine kills while committing just one error in 29 attacks to lead the TU offense. The Trojans also got six kills apiece from senior Rachel Bouma and sophomore Callie Drage while freshman Amanda Adams tied her career high with four kills.

 

Defensively, sophomore Julia Pomerenke paced the Taylor front line with two solo and four assisted blocks as the Trojans tallied ten team blocks on the night.  

 

The Trojans jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set an never relinquished the lead on the way to a 25-21 win.

 

TU continued the momentum into set two by scoring the first four points on the way to an 8-3 lead. IU East charged back to pull within one a 12-11 before the Trojans scored 10 of the next 13 points on the way to a 25-17 win.

 

IU East held its first lead of the night in set three as the Red Wolves opened the set by taking a 3-1 lead. The Trojans answered with five consecutive points to move ahead by a 6-3 margin. Taylor held the lead until the Red Wolves unleashed an 8-2 run to move into a 19-17 lead.

 

The Trojans rallied to knot the game a 22-22 then scored three of the next four points to seal the victory with a 25-23 win.

 

Junior Haley Harrell coordinated the Taylor attack with 21 assists and added 11 digs. Sophomore Samantha Korn also tallied 11 digs while Gerig led the Trojans with 18 digs.

 

The Trojans tallied a .074 attack percentage for the match while limiting IU East to a -.026 attack percentage.

 

Taylor will hit the road for a pair of Crossroads League contests this weekend as the Trojans travel to Goshen on Friday night followed by a trip to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday.
