FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 23rd-ranked Taylor women's golf team finished the two-day USF Fall Invitational in a tie for second place firing rounds of 319 and 317. Sophomore Annie Stimmel led the way for the Trojans with a tie for fourth place with two-day total of 153 (75-78).
Taylor counted three scores in the 70's during Saturday's final round as freshmen Nicole Jung and Taylor French matched Stimmel with rounds of 78 on the 5,849-yard, par-72 layout of Cobblestone Golf Course. Sophomore Maddie Thomas added a round of 84 while junior Elizabeth Jackson was TU's drop score with an 86. Junior Raquel Helton fired a final round 91 as an individual for TU.
The Trojans entered the final round in a tie for second place with the hosts from Saint Francis and the Trojans and Cougars tallied identical rounds of 317 on Saturday to finish tied for second place in the 11-team field.
The 15th-ranked Racers of the University of Northwestern Ohio earned the victory with a two-day total of 603 (304-299) while Taylor and USF finished at 636 (319-317). No. 17 Bethel finished in fourth place at 647 (333-314) followed by Indiana Wesleyan at 648 (329-319).
Jung finished in a tie for 11th place with a two-round total of 159 (81-78) while French finished in a tie for 15th place at 161 (83-78). Thomas was next on the leaderboard in a tie for 28th place at 164 (81-83) while Jackson finished in a tie for 36th at 168 (82-86) and Helton finished in 61st place at 178 (87-91).
Taylor will return to action on Oct. 13-14 at the Swan Lake Intercollegiate played at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana
