HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Taylor men's tennis team kept their postseason run alive by upsetting third-seeded Huntington (9-4, 7-2 CL) on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament. The Trojans (5-8, 4-5 CL) bested Huntington 5-4, avenging a 6-3 loss they suffered against the Foresters during the regular season.
The Trojans got off to a hot start, picking up two wins in doubles action. The tandems of Andre Danelli and Christen Jacquottet in the No. 2 position and Stephen All and Jacob Scott in the No. 3 position recorded the victories 8-2 and 8-6, respectively.
Needing three more sets to clinch the win, TU was able to land just one victory in the first four matches with Jake Herbruck picking up a two-set win. Down to the final two matches, both of which had to go Taylor's way to advance, the Trojans' All and Alex Jung refused to see the fall season end as they both fell behind 1-0 only to claw back to win back-to-back sets in each of their three-set victories. The two wins were enough for TU to edge HU.
"It was a fantastic match and great win for our guys," noted Coach Don Taylor. "Tonight we had the kind of perseverance we want from our players. Things looked grim having lost three of the first four singles matches, but Stephen and Alex battled and fought back to win in three sets. Tonight was how we wanted to play all season, finishing matches well."
Taylor's semifinal matchup will be a head-to-head battle with second-seeded Marian University (10-2, 7-2 CL) at 5:30 pm on Thursday at the University of Indianapolis Tennis Center.
